Wanderlust

One cabinet, many stories.

A modular cabinet with sliding panels in tinted glass, marble or acrylic on an anodised aluminium frame. Rainforest, desert sand, coral or rosé: each colour theme turns the same structure into a different piece, and every panel can be moved or swapped whenever the room changes.

The idea

Wanderlust began as my graduation project at Design Academy Eindhoven. The observation behind it is simple: we rearrange the things on our shelves all the time, but the shelf itself stays the same. So the cabinet became a frame, and everything that gives it character became a panel that slides along the profiles and can be taken out and replaced.

The profiles are flocked so the panels glide softly, magnetic caps close their ends, and LED strips can be set into them to light the glass from within. A tray hides what you do not want on display, a perforated U-panel holds folders and books. Each theme is a palette: the rainforest in deep greens and amber, desert sand in warm ochres, coral in reds and petrol, rosé in blush and mint. Mixed freely, they let the cabinet travel with you from one home, and one mood, to the next.
